| Boring Information about the Tashkent HHH | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What is Hashing? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Variously described as "the lunatic fringe of running or
power walking"
and "the drinking or social club with a running problem," the Hash House Harriers
are a worldwide group with some 350 chapters in the United
States. Our premise is simple, one harrier (the hare) lays a trail of flour or chalk over a course (s)he chooses. The other harriers (the hounds) try to follow that trail to the end where we enjoy munchies and beer (or tea and soft drinks for those disinclined to imbibe). The typical hash is 5-6 kilometers over hill and dale, through parks, suburbs, woods, bazaars, canals, et al. The hash isn't a race - no prizes to the swift. Following the trail is the challenge, camaraderie and beverages are the rewards. |

| Who Started Us on Our Road to Ruin? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Tashkent HHH was started more than 10 years years ago (someone help me with this tidbit of info) by a group of Expats working in Uzbekistan. Hashes are held every Sunday. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| When Do We Hash? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| We hash weekly, rain, snow or sun not withstanding. In the summer, we hash on Sunday afternoons at 17:00 hrs, and in the winter on Sunday afternoons at 15:00 hrs. During Spring and Fall we hash at 16:00 hrs.The Spring schedule starts on the first Sunday of March. The summer schedule starts on the first Sunday in June. Fall schedule starts on first Sunday of September We switch back to Winter schedule on the first Sunday of December. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| What Are Our Hashes Like? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Trails are of the pre-laid or as now pre-mapped variety. Someone occasionally does the "live hare" thing just to confuse us (not hard to do). The average length is 5-6 kilometers, (1 to 1.5 hrs)but you never know for sure. Rarely does a trail not have a water stop, unforeseen dead end or detour, and water canals. Typically, about 8-10 people show up for regular hashes and considerably more show up forlately rare) special hash events (e.g., mountain hashes, trips to Samarqand, Bukhoro or Hash Bashes-Parties). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Who Hashes? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
The Tashkent HHH has approximately 20 members; membership is about 30-40% male and 60-70% female. There are several married couples plus a few stranger relationships. Members pay a participation fee of 1000 so'm per event to cover the cost of metro token, soft drinks and occasional snacks and to fund special events. Guests and visitors are always welcome! Definitely think twice about bringing your mother or very young kids though... | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
